Join him and Chef Ming as they share how you can impress your guests this Chinese New Year with a 年糕 Nian Gao made from scratch!





年糕 (Nian Gao) Recipe by Jimmy from U-LIKE

Serving Size: 9 inch

Serves: 4 to 6 pax

Ingredients
• 1 whole yam, sliced
• 1 whole sweet potato, sliced
• Banana leaf, 1 pc
• Soaked overnight glutinous rice, 500g
• Brown sugar, 100g
• Palm sugar/gula melaka, 60g
• Black sugar, 60g
• U-LIKE XO flour, 500g (1 packet), Available at Tangs Plaza & TANGS.com
• Water, 175ml

Method
• Blend the overnight glutinous rice and water together first before adding the brown sugar, palm sugar and black sugar
• Lay the banana leaf in the mould
• Pour the mixture into the mould and steam it for an hour
• Leave it overnight for 1 to 2 days before deep frying it
• Cut the 年糕 (Nian Gao), sweet potato and yam into similar sizes
• Mix half a packet of U-LIKE XO flour with water (Follow the instructions on packaging)
• Heat up the wok with oil
• Place the 年糕 (Nian Gao) in between the yam and sweet potato
• Coat it with the U-LIKE XO flour mixture evenly and deep fry till golden brown








Carrot Cake Recipe by Jimmy from U-LIKE

Serving Size: 9 inch

Serves: 4 to 6 pax

Ingredients
• 1 whole carrot, shredded
• 1 whole radish, shredded
• Mushroom, 5pcs
• Water, 1500ml
• U-LIKE sakura prawn, 20g
• U-LIKE Carrot cake flour, 500g (1 packet), Available at Tangs Plaza & TANGS.com

Method
• Mix the U-LIKE carrot cake flour with water
• Stir fry the carrot, radish, sakura prawn and mushrooms together
• Mix the cooked ingredients together with the mixture
• Cook in low heat till the mixture turns into a thick consistency
• Pour into a 9-inch mould and steam on high heat for 40 minutes
