Style Hawker gets up close and personal in bi-monthly interviews featuring friends of TANGS!
In this instalment, we speak to Franki Turner, Founder and Creative Director of Frankitas - ‘Franki’ is short for Francisca and ‘tas’ means bag in Indonesian. Franki’s Javanese roots, Malaysian upbringing and worldly travels have nurtured her enduring love for ethnic, hand-woven fabrics, for the heritage and craftsmanship they represent. Franki lives in Malaysia with her husband and 3 children.
Who are you Franki Turner?
I am a mother of 3 children, a wife, and an entrepreneur. Besides my passion for traditional textiles and travelling, I am equally passionate about food, eating as well as cooking. In fact, I am truly obsessed with my food.
Can you define your style?
I don’t have one distinctive style. I can be simple one day, and the next go for a classic and old school glamour. Most times I quite casual and understated.
Who is your style icon?
Grace Kelly and Olivia Palermo.
Where do you find inspiration?
Nature, food, my children and travelling.
What social/charitable causes are you passionate about?
I am very passionate about any causes that contribute to the development of the local community. I have a soft spot for helping children, refugees, and preserving heritage.
What is your beauty routine?
I am a fairly simple and traditional person, I tend to just moisturize twice a day and do a mask once a week using natural yogurt. Every two days, I drink my Indonesian Jamu (fresh herbal drink) which I make myself, to cleanse internally. Occasionally, I will have my traditional Indonesian lulur (body scrub), maybe once every two months.
What is your favourite piece in your dressing? and Why?
There are 6 things that I absolutely love and must have: my Frankitas, heels, jeans, shirts, light cotton t-shirts, and dresses – I have many of them. These are what I live in because they allow me to move around comfortably and almost effortlessly.
What is a must have from Tangs this season?
Colours are a must-have from TANGS this year. I feel consumers should really step outside of their comfort zone and take more colour risks.
What is your wish for 2016? (travel, experiences...)
Given the time and resources, I personally wish to travel more with my family. Work-wise, I wish to travel as well and do more creative collaborations with NGOs that promote and develop the preservation of heritage. Ideally, I would also like to live by the sea or a lake.
