NEW: Textile loveliness by Frankitas at House of TANG

Christmas is the season of giving. So what if you could follow your moral Christmas compass and do some responsible present buying instead of simply hunting for more stocking stuffers? At our Design Department ‘House of TANG’, we are super excited to present a new range of textile-y loveliness that is rich in both heritage and history. The Frankitas Collection, supporting skilled and talented artisans from different parts of Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Africa and Central America, is infused with striking contemporary colours and (very) stylish design.

Expect loads of stunning prints as Frankitas uses traditional textile crafting techniques such as weaving and tie-dying that result in fabulous Ikat, Batik, Songket, and Tenun Rangrang motifs. The Frankitas collection includes eye pleasing handcrafted signature clutches, travel bags, shoulder bags, jewellery, cushion covers, lampshades, organic silk scarfs and frames.

Frankitas aims to build a working community by creating opportunities for economically disadvantaged crafters in remote areas so that they may continue to create traditional works of art. Frankitas purchases textiles at fair trade prices directly from the weavers or through NGOs that represent them.

The lady behind the wonderful label, founder and creative director Francisca Turner Shaik, is also the namesake behind Frankitas. ‘Franki’ short for Francisca and ‘tas’ meaning bag in Indonesian. Franki’s Javanese roots, Malaysian upbringing and worldly travels nurtured her enduring love for ethnic, hand-woven fabrics for the heritage and craftsmanship they represent.
